Program this week - Thursday 10/3

There will be a program on Engineering Advising and Engineering Careers presented on Thursday, October 3, at 5:30 pm in SM260 by Ms. Danae Jarman.

Ms. Jarman will talk about the difference between various Engineering careers, what it takes to get into the College of Engineering, and what it takes to succeed once you are there. Anyone interested in an engineering career, regardless of your current classes, is urged to attend.

Ms. Jarman is the FAMU-FSU "Mapping Coordinator", which means she is responsible for maintaining the semester-by-semester course plan and milestone requirements for every engineering major. She also advises transfer and pre-engineering students at FSU as well as at TCC.

She is available in SU-228 at TCC from 1:30 to 5:00 pm on every other Tuesday (10/1, 10/15, 10/29, etc). You can also get advice from Troy Mahler, who was an advisor at FSU before becoming an advisor at TCC.

Later in October: 

Meeting at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering so we can tour various labs and meet with both faculty and students.  The plan is to have lots of FSU students who transferred from TCC so they can tell you what they think you need to know before transferring to the university.  This will probably be on a Friday afternoon. 

Advising session by Dr. Carr to help you plan for Spring registration and/or transfer in the summer.  I expect that Troy Mahler will be there to answer any questions I can't answer.  We may have more than one session so they can focus on transfer for almost-graduating students and getting off to a good start at TCC for students who have not yet taken calculus and physics.  At least one of these will probably be in the afternoon at 2:30 for those who can't make the 5:30 meeting on October 3.

Two Announcements

1) There is a meeting this Friday (9/24) at 2:30 in the SM260 conference room. I believe there will be a presentation about a thorium reactor project in addition to other club business.

2) On a less serious note, BBC America (Comcast digital cable 114) is having a "Top Gear" marathon this weekend to lead into their new season opener Monday. This show is an acquired taste, but where else could you see a test drive of the Ariel Atom?

Fall Meeting Schedule

Today is the first meeting of the Engineering Club for the fall semester.

All meetings are at 2:30 PM in SM-260, the conference room just to the left of the Science and Math reception area.

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, plus the Tuesday after the 2nd Friday, except when holidays mess up that schedule.

There is a club meeting scheduled for Thursday, 9/10.

The meeting will be in classroom SM-116 because the conference room is in use all day by the Science and Math Division Dean.

Primary item of business will be deciding on what competition to enter, because some of those deadlines are very close.

First meeting of Fall 2009

Our first meeting of the year will be this Thursday at 2:30 in the Science and Math conference room, SM260. This room is just to the left of the receptionist.

Engineering Club meeting on Friday

The first club meeting of 2009 will be Friday afternoon, January 16, probably at 2:30 or 3:00. We have some important club business to take care of, plus planning for this year's meetings. One thing I would like to do is invite some faculty and students from FSU to talk about your options when you transfer and what you have to prepare for when you leave TCC.

UPDATE: The meeting will be in classroom SM 124. SM260 is in use.

The other thing we have to do is thank Doug Jones for all he has done for the club. His official retirement party is that same night. If you want to know what he might do after he retires, check out this video that my dad got from his brother:
