Electric and Solar Assist Vehicle News

Two items:

1) The final assembly of the Solar-Assist system started this afternoon and will continue on Friday at 10:30 until it is complete. I have most of the baseline data from monitoring the existing system and will post those real soon now.

2) I was forwarded the following notice: "Test Drive a Zap! Zap Corporation, manufacturers of all electric cars, will be in town this Saturday with cars that you can take for a test drive. These cars are viable, all-electric commuting cars, so if you get a chance stop by and take one out for a spin."
Date and Time: Saturday, April 12th 11 a.m.
Location: K-mart Plaza, corner of Apalachee and Blairstone Rd.

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone's doing great in classes. We've got a lot of really exciting things happening with the club, and it's time to get things going strong. We have our movie night tomorrow night at Movies 8. The show is at midnight. We need to be there about 11:15 PM.

We also have finally received our order of solar panels. Come out tomorrow and get to check them out.

StuFac day is next wednesday. Be sure to check with Dexter and let him know when you can be at the booth.

Here is a brief list of all the things that will be going on this weekend:

INFORMATION from SGA

The following items came up in yesterday's SGA meeting, attended by your VP/SGA Rep. Kory Rash.

1. SGA is planning on sending a party of student volunteers to New Orlenas, LA, Feb. 22-24, to build houses with Habitat For Humanity. Apparently the cost per student will be around $50. If you are interested in some genuine humanitarian service, this would be it. We'll provide more information, including the contact person in SGA in the near future.

2. The Club with the MOST PARTICIPANTS WHO CROSS THE 5K FINISH LINE in the GIRL SCOUT "Run for the Cookies" gets a free pizza party.

SOLAR PROJECT MEETING SAT. 1/12/08

A. On Saturday, January 12, seven members of the TCC Engineering Club's Solar Project Committee met at All Saints Cafe to discuss the goals of the project and work on the College Innovation Fund proposal. The members that met were: Aaron Bauldree, Vernon Babich, Benjamin Holiber, Ann Wolfgang, Henry Youn, Matthew Rakestraw, and Kory Rash. Everyone was able to learn exactly what the College Innovation Fund is, and how it will be able to benefit our efforts. We were also able to complete the proposal for this request. If the club is awarded the requested $2500, we will be able to fully investigate how these panels can be used, as well as possibly have more than one cart fitted with solar panels before the end of this semester.

While the planning stage is completed, we are now ready to put the plan in action. Starting this week, we are going to start setting the foundation for the data collection process concerning the baseline energy consumption of the control cart.

As soon as the P3 Kill A Watt electrical usage meter arrives, we will start collecting data. So there is still much more work to be done, and everyone that is interested in contributing will have an opportunity.

B. Aside from the solar project, we also discussed presenting the opportunity for club members to give presentations during each club meeting. While these presentations will be brief, they will give an excellent opportunity for club members to practice their presentation skills.

Presentation is a key skill that engineers need when entering the working force. These presentations are completely voluntary and can cover any subject. It is just an opportunity to practice a skill that will help club members become better in the field of engineering. Anyone interested in volunteering to make a presentation needs to contact the Club President, Aaron Baudree, to be scheduled into the agenda.

OPEN LETTER TO MEMBERS RE: LEON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER NIGHT.

Members,

This topic was mentioned at the last meeting (8/31/07).
On Tue. Evening 9/18/07 at the Fairgrounds there will be held the
LEON COUNT CAREER NIGHT for all the local high school students.

We need one member of our Club who is also an ASME (Student) member to join forces with a FAMU/FSU student member and several ASME Tallahassee Section members to work a table set up for the ASME. Information will be distributed to interested high school students on careers in engineering and on the college experience for potential engineers. I’m not sure of the exact times, but I believe that it begins at about 6pm or perhaps 6:30pm and lasts a couple of hours. There is also some free food involved.

Michael O’Connor participated last year, so I’m not asking him to volunteer again. We need to be taking turns. It is a worthwhile activity, and I urge someone to step forward.

Please email me by return mail if you are able to volunteer. First come; first served. I’ll announce it when it happens.

Also, since my mailing lists are incomplete, please pass the word on.

And finally, I’ll put this whole item onto the “blog” for, possibly, greater coverage.

We have a Chairperson at least through the Fall 07 Semester. But we'll be needing a Chairperson-Elect ASAP.

However, we will not have a Vice Chairperson after the Summer 07 Semester. We need someone for this position.

And we will not have a SGA Representative (Student Government Rep) after the Summer 07 Semester. We absolutely MUST have someone for this position.
